General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) faced a legal blow as a New York judge ordered the company to turn over internal documents and files relating to its handling of the defect, to plaintiff attorneys. The ruling was cheered by several car owners suing the auto maker over its ignition-switch flaw. The plaintiffs have sued the auto maker alleging personal injury, deaths and economic losses in connection with GM’s recall of older cars fitted with a faulty switch. However, the order pertains only to those accidents, which occurred after the auto maker emerged from bankruptcy-court protection. The latest discovery order ruling will allow plaintiff attorneys to obtain records, review the material facts and use in cases.
